Inclusive Community

Always ask politely and respect 'no' without question.
Maintain personal space and be mindful of your partner.

Be aware of others on the floor and avoid blocking pathways or invading another couple's space

Wear clean, non-marking shoes with at most a moderate heel to protect the floor and ensure everyone's safety. Avoid very slippery or sticky soles.

CU West Coast Swing Dancers is a welcoming community of social dancers.
We invite everyone to join us—no matter your background or experience level.
Leading and following are open to all genders, and anyone may ask anyone to dance.
Welcome new faces and offer encouragement.
Our floor is for everyone, regardless of experience or role preference.

Please be mindful of personal space and the comfort of others. Good hygiene is important. Arrive in clean clothing with minimal scent. If you tend to sweat while dancing, consider bringing a towel or an extra shirt. Wash your hands after using the restroom and use hand sanitizer as needed. We always have sanitizer on hand.

On the dance floor, stay aware of those around you. Dance within your slot and avoid drifting into another couple’s space. Help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. A dance invitation is for one song. Please be courteous when asking, accepting, or declining. If you choose to decline a dance, we ask that you sit out that song rather than dance with someone else.

While meaningful connections can grow through dance, our events are not intended for dating. We are here to share music, movement, and community.

During lessons, please allow instructors to provide instruction and feedback. In social dancing, do not critique or correct your partner. Everyone should feel free to enjoy themselves and learn at their own pace.

Our goal is to keep CU West Coast Swing Dancers welcoming and safe for all. If something makes you uncomfortable, please speak up—our organizers are here to support you. We reserve the right to issue warnings or ask anyone to leave if they do not follow our etiquette or safety expectations. At any event, we may ask someone to leave if necessary to protect the well-being of our community.
